To join in the Olympic fever, students at Horizon Elementary participated in the Reading Olympics. To kick off the week of reading, an Opening Ceremony was held with Superintendent John Marschhausen, Mikaela Hunt from NBC4 and Robin Nesbitt and Carissa Whyte from the Hilliard Branch of the Columbus Public Library. The theme of the week was “I Am a Reading Star!” For six days the students and staff tracked their reading hours within school and outside of school. Students also held mystery Skype sessions with students in other countries, community members came in to read and they held a book swap. The excitement for reading was contagious and collectively the students and staff read over 4,000 hours. Inspiring students to be reading stars prepares them to be Ready for Tomorrow.
