Many Hilliard School parents have a unique expertise in their daily lives that our teachers are able to tap into. Dr. Amanda Toland is one of those parents. She is a molecular geneticist from The Ohio State University and she has a student at Tharp Sixth Grade School. She has been collaborating with Mr. Hans, one of the science teachers, about her latest research involving skin cancer. The two worked together to create a lesson where the students were able to explore the basics of cancer, examine normal and metastasized cells under microscopes to observe structural differences, and apply their prior learning to understand her research. It’s important to keep our parents and teachers working together so that all of our students are Ready for Tomorrow.
