Student Safety Advisory
The safety and well-being of our students and staff is a priority at Hilliard City Schools. We want to take this opportunity to inform our community of two incidents that have occurred involving two of our high school students.
The first incident involved a female Hilliard Darby High School student who lives in the Cabot Cove apartment complex. She was grabbed by an adult male as she walked to her bus stop. The student spun away from the man, kicked him, and ran to safety where she immediately contacted the police. In this incident, we do not have any other details regarding the description of the suspect.
The second incident involved a female Hilliard Davidson High School student who was walking south on Avery Road. An unknown man gestured to her to approach his car, an early or mid-90’s Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible with temporary tags. The girl continued walking toward her home, but the car was waiting for her when she crossed the street. The driver motioned again for her to approach the car, which he did three times along her route. Fortunately, one of the girl’s parents was able to see the man and reported the following description to the Hilliard Police:
- White male
- Roughly 160 lbs.
- Late 30’s or 40’s
- Dark brown or black hair about shoulder length, wearing a black baseball cap
- Full/thick dark beard
- Two earrings in left ear
Please take the time to talk to your children and remind them of these tips:
- Do not approach an unfamiliar car or person
- Move away swiftly toward a safe house, your own or a friend’s
- Scream, yell and kick, if necessary
If you notice suspicious activity, you should note the following information and then call 911:
- Record the license number, color, make and model of the vehicle, as well as any identifying marks on the vehicle
- Be able to describe the suspect, noting the approximate height and weight; color, length and style of the hair; presence of facial hair; distinctive clothing, or other markings
Please take time to review these safety precautions with your children and remind them to walk in groups or pairs. We encourage you to reinforce these reminders with your children and ask them to take the same precautions during non-school hours and on weekends.
