2017 Superhero 5K – Davidson Band and OWR
Even with the threat of storms giving way to soaring temperatures, the Superheros of the Davidson Band and Orphan World Relief were hard at work ensuring that children around the world had a glimpse of hope in an unyielding world. On April 30, the Davidson High School Band Program partnered with Orphan World Relief (OWR), a local non-profit organization supporting orphaned children across the globe and right here at home, to host the 2017 Superhero 5K and Kids Dash. Racers and on-lookers alike were encouraged to come dressed as their favorite fictional fantasy character and race for these two great causes. In the end, the collective funds raised through amazing sponsorships, generous donations, and the hard work of tireless volunteers was over $9,000, an amount that will be split between the Davidson band and OWR.
This event would not have been possible without our wonderful cooperate sponsors, Nationwide Children’s Hospital Close to Home, Providers for Healthy Living and Golden Giant Steel Buildings, as well as all the other businesses that were generous enough to contribute to this event. In addition to these kind hearts, many individuals across our community and in far away places took this opportunity to be heroes as well and show their support. We had roughly 200 people come out to the race and share in our event, including a number of businesses like Coffee Connections, Tortilla, My Comfy Kits, and Cozies4Kids that ultimately made this event a success. Thanks to all who were able to support our efforts both here and abroad.
As our efforts were transformed into numbers, the students of the Davidson band were encouraged to press on using a number of incentives, however cruel that may be for the band directors. Why you ask? Well, SuperGames of Worthington donated their facilities to host a celebration marking the hard work of all involved. At this event, students had free reign to use the generously donated inflatables and see their directors go down in a dunk tank, a numbing experience as the temperatures were quite cool that night. Thanks to SuperGames for making this event possible- in the end, fun was had by all.
Again, we want to thank everyone at Hilliard Davidson, OWR and in the community who made this event a success. Check out our website for more information about our upcoming events and next year’s performance.
