This coming school year Bradley is going to be welcoming a new English class for next year. This class will be called Contemporary Young Adult Literature and the teacher will be Julie Fout.
The Reporter asked Mrs. Fout a couple questions about this exciting addition to English classes. We discovered the curriculum will include reading and discussing young adult books.
Grades will mostly be on the discussions and writing responses to books, and there may be a paper but that is undecided. However, there will be no tests. The class will be worth half credit and is a half year elective course.
Fout wants to base the books that will be read off of what the students want, so she will pick a theme and then the students as a class will recommend and pick the book they would like to read.
Fout’s goals for the class include helping students find time to read new books. Fout said her other goals include “giving students a chance to read books they haven’t read before”.
As for the students who are interested in taking the course, some explain their love of reading as the reason for signing up. Junior Alli Hile explains why she wants to take this class: “I really enjoy reading.” Hope Funderburg also plans on taking this class because “I really like reading and I feel like I will have a lot of fun with it.”
Hile discussed what she was looking forward to in Fout’s class: “I am looking forward to reading a lot in the class and new and different books.” Funderburg added, “I’m excited for going to read new books I would like.”
This new addition gives students an opportunity to read books of their choice and discuss with their peers. If you love to read scheduling ends on the February 21, so request the class as soon as possible. For more information view the scheduling information in your graduating class’s Canvas course.
