New Teachers Literacy Framework Training

Dates: Induction 8/1, 8/2, 9/28, COI Day, 10/26, Hilliard U (self-select a literacy course from above), 12/7

This course is designed for teachers new to the HIlliard City School District.  It is intended to help participants become effective in teaching children in kindergarten- fifth grade to read and write with the goal of helping every child become a successful reader/writer, who is able to use literacy in a variety of purposes.  The experience is intended as a support for teachers who are implementing a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning with a literacy framework.

Literacy Framework Refresher

Dates: 9/22, 10/25, 11/17, 12/15, 1/19, 2/23, 3/16, 4/20

3:45-5:15  Primary Central Office, Intermediate Britton

This course is designed to help participants grow in their understanding of teaching children in kindergarten- fifth grade to read and write with the goal of helping every child become a successful reader/writer, who is able to use literacy in a variety of purposes. The experience is intended as a support for teachers who are implementing a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning with a literacy framework.

Teachers as Writers: Amplifying Voices

Dates: 10/4, 11/1, 12/6, 1/10, 2/7, 3/7, 4/4

In this writing workshop sessions, teachers will have the opportunity to write for themselves, for their students, and for others. Each session will introduce mentors to allow writers to amplify their voice to advocate for change. Mentor texts will be shared and time will be used to pursue personal writing goals.  Sign up on PD Express.

Still Learning to Read Grades 3-5 

Dates:  10/25, 10/31*, 11/7*, 11/15, 11/21*, 11/28*, 12/6           *denotes off site

Still Learning to Read by Franki Sibberson and Karen Szymusiak focuses on the needs of students in grades 3-5 in all aspects of reading workshop: including read aloud, classroom design, digital tools, fiction, nonfiction, and close reading.
