Absence Procedures

Parents or guardians can call 771-2289 to report an absence before 9:00AM. A voice messaging system will take calls before 7:20AM, after school, in the evening and on weekends. If no phone call is received by the attendance office, parents will be notified of a students absence by the auto-dialer beginning at 6:00PM. And a note from a parent or guardian must be turned into the attendance office within 3 days.

The following conditions are the only conditions approved by the Hilliard City School District that constitute an excused absence from school:

1. Personal illness
2. Illness in family
3. Quarantine of the home
4. Death of a relative
5. Needed at home due to absence of parents or guardian
6. Observance of religious holiday
7. Appointment (medical, dental, legal)
8. Family trip

An absence can only be classified as official if a note from a doctor, dentist or legal representative is brought to the attendance office.

Early Dismissals
A note must be turned into the attendance office by 9:00 AM. The note must be signed by a parent or legal guardian, include the student's full name, the date and time of early dismissal, and a phone number where the parent or guardian can be reached for confirmation. Once receiving this note an early dismissal will be issued to the student. Students must sign out through the attendance office before leaving the building. Failure to sign out will result in disciplinary action and the early dismissal will not be excused.

In case of an emergency, a parent or guardian must come to the attendance office and sign the student out of school.

Full Day vs. Half Day Absences
A student missing one class period or less on an early dismissal will not be counted absent on the daily attendance record. Students missing 2 to 3 class periods will be counted absent a half day. Students missing 4 or more class periods will be counted absent a full day
