Redistricting committee looks to elementary boundaries
The 90-plus members of the district’s Redistricting Committee are working in subgroups and currently analyzing boundary lines for the district’s 14 elementary schools.
The subgroups have sent the maps they’ve created for the high schools to the transportation department to be tested for actual student counts and transportation feasibility. The groups will follow the same process for the elementary boundaries.
After input from the transportation department, the subgroups will continue to refine both sets of maps.
The three middle schools will align with the three high schools. Weaver will feed into Davidson, Heritage will feed into Darby and Memorial will feed into the new high school. The boundaries for the two sixth-grade buildings will be based up on the suggestions for the elementary boundaries.
While each group is working toward a common goal, there are a variety of approaches to the task at hand. Creating new boundaries that allow for neighborhood schools while also providing a balance of socioeconomic factors (race, income, English Language Learners) have been identified as critical guiding principles as they plot maps.
Community members are invited to provide feedback on the process and can do so by filling out the form. Please see the link for more detailed information about the redistricting process, in general. Community forums, where the suggested maps will be on display, are scheduled for February and March.
