Elementary Lunch Notes
Lunch menus are printed by Tooned-In Menus in color with fun nutrition games & puzzles. They are sent home each month but if you misplace the menu you may also access the lunch menu and ala carte price lists on the school district web site or at www.schoolmenu.com.
We believe that in order to have a successful cafeteria program we must make choices available to the students. Every day in addition to the featured entree, students may choose from a Chef Salad, Featured cold sandwich of the week or a Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich. (Some schools only make these extra entrée choices available to the upper grade levels) We offer 3 choices of fruit daily and if a child doesn’t like a particular side item offered with the lunch they may substitute that item with a cup of fruit. We also make jello with apple juice to increase the nutritional value of a very popular side choice. We are very aware that there are students with severe food allergies. We do not use products that contain peanut oil or nuts unless it is clearly identified on the menu. We do a nutritional analysis on our menus so we must have current nutritional information in our computer database on every item that is served.
Although we are offering the maximum recommended portion size we realize that older children may want more food than is offered with the lunch. Students may purchase an additional entrée or side item if desired. Snacks are also available for purchase which can also make up for the extra calorie needs of growing children.
Milk is a very important nutritional component of the school lunch. By making flavored milk available we have a greater percentage of children actually drinking the milk that is available with their lunch. If a child can’t drink milk we will make an alternate beverage available if we have a note from the parent indicating the need.
