About our School
Letter from Mr. McClure
Dear Darby Family:
I would like to thank the students, staff, and parents for a smooth opening of Darby High School’s 13th year. We opened our doors to over 2350 students. The students have infused a positive energy into the building. The building is alive with activity and extracurriculars are in full swing. Darby has roughly 900 kids participating in fall extracurricular activities.
This past summer the Ohio Department of Education reinforced the outstanding academics afforded to students at Darby High. Darby was again rated “excellent” by the Ohio Department of Education. Darby surpassed all of the state’s standards for academic performance, graduation rate, and attendance rate. While this is not the only means by which we measure the achievement of our students and staff, it is an important indicator of our success and was an exciting way to start the year! If you would like to view the complete school or district report card, you may do so on the internet by visiting the Ohio Department of Education website.
The “excellent” rating does not happen by chance, and the Darby faculty and staff are committed to enhancing student achievement. The staff is currently working on developing common assessments and analyzing assessment data. These efforts will be outlined in the 2008-2009 Building Improvement Plan. The 2008-2009 Building Improvement Plan has been infused with recommendations from the district’s “High School 2020” initiative. I believe this process will continue to stimulate student achievement and increase student readiness for post graduation options.
Listed below are dates Darby will have 50 minute late starts for teacher professional development. On these dates, however, busses will run at their regular time. Students who need to ride the bus will be admitted to the building and will be allowed to study in the commons until school begins. Additionally, “zero period” classes will be held on these dates:
9/29/08 10/20/08
11/10/08 1/12/09
2/23/09 3/16/09
5/4/09
The following dates are district-wide late start dates. Busses will run two hours later on these dates and school will begin two hours later than usual. Zero period classes will not be held on these dates, however students who need to arrive early will be admitted to the building and allowed to study in the cafeteria.
12/3/08 1/28/09
4/23/09
