The fourth and fifth grade classes at Norwich Elementary have been inspired to spread kindness. After reading “Wonder” by R.J. Palaccio, they wanted to celebrate all the ways their peers can choose to be kind. They decided to set up a service learning room for the Winter Fair on Saturday March 8 from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. They will staff the room and encourage friends to sign a pledge to raise awareness and funds for those who look different, specifically those with Craniofacial Syndrome.
As part of the curriculum standards they analyze and empathize with characters from the book. They are learning how to be productive citizens who make positive choices. They will be planning an event about their passion, ordering and selling t-shirts and wristbands and communication globally with pen pals with Craniofacial Syndrome. When students are able to embrace others they are empowered to act. These actions show they are Ready for Tomorrow.
